Hiring the Right Crew?

If you were ever wondering what the Cats look for in a crew member but didn’t know where to start, well here is a long explanation made short: Authenticity, and Professionalism. There are a lot of different wants that companies will look for, whether it's some specific etiquette like wearing specific clothes on set or having specific gear or even having a specific look that can hurt the chances of those wanting and willing to work to miss out on opportunities. Here at Nova Cat Films, we strive to focus solely on people's work ethics and who they are as a person. Someone could have the top of the line gear and years of experience but if they bring down the morale on set because they feel themselves to be more important than the rest, then the film isn’t going to be a pleasant time. And that sucks the fun out of a career choice that should be fun to be a part of.

This striving to have fun stems mainly from the authenticity of people and how they are towards themselves and others. It is extremely important to make sure not to interfere with other people’s work on set, but it doesn't mean that set should be void of helping others and conversation. There is a time and place for everything, but if everyone is secluded, then a community can’t grow. With this sense of community is also knowing that professionalism is integral to making sure things run smoothly on and off set. Not everyone can become friends with everybody and that's how life works, but it shouldn’t mean we can’t still all work together to make an amazing film. If you find yourself not clicking with someone, even in your own department, just be courteous to one another and do what you can to keep the ball rolling.

There is no need to go out of your way to make that person's life harder. Though if you find yourself in the position that someone is doing so, let your department head and or a producer know. Unfortunately not everyone on set has the mindset to try and communicate and work towards the betterment of the project, and no one should suffer in hopes that things can get done because you as a person are important as well.So what is the best takeaway here? It is to always strive to be yourself and work effectively and with intention. There should be a focus on getting what you need done first and seeing if there isn’t anything that you are doing that is not impeding on what someone else is doing, and if someone is doing things to intentionally impede on you or someone else,s work to notify someone.. Most importantly of all, enjoy your time on set. Make great experiences that you will carry with you, because if there is anything the Cats do best, it is have fun.
