The Relationship Between Movies and Social Media
Social Media has become a very important part of our everyday life. TikTok is so important the government constantly debates on if it should be banned or not, Facebook (aka Meta) is worth a trillion dollars, and social media stars are often seen as big, if not bigger, than movie stars of the 90s and 2000s.
With the rise of social media, movie and film content has shifted with it. This is due to a lot of reasons. With stars from the early 2000s finding new life on social media (Like the Paul Brothers and Josh Peck) and social media stars of today finding a life in film, like youtuber Curry Barker who just sold his movie at TIFF for millions.
The relationship between the movie industry and the social media industry is getting closer and closer, and that is due to how popular social media is getting. Many industry professionals work on social media content, our own Kevin P. Baker has his own social media content, as well as has worked on social media content for the Bleacher Report, Netflix, The Department of Labor, and The Washington Commanders.
These large companies see the value in social media, and bring the professionals that make, and use to make large scale commercials for them, and have them focus on social media content. This is how we are able to see very impressive social media videos, from all levels of companies and people.
There is a real talent to social media content, because while yes it is still often video, there are different things to consider. Aspect Ratio, attention spans of audience, and a term called variability (the ability a video has to become viral) are all things that must be considered when making content.
